So is it "unethical" that I requested a free copy of a book (as a teacher) that I really just want to replace a book I used to have?? So here's the story... when I was at Augie and took Anatomy I had to buy an Atlas of Anatomy text by Frank Netter. And I loved this book... it had the best diagrams and was by far one of the best textbooks I ever used. Okay, fine. So I get to grad school and they used that book as well as another one in the cadaver lab. Well, since I had a good copy of the book, there was no way I was bringing it into cadaver lab, so we were just going to use it to study outside of class. Well, that lasted for the first day of class. Before you go into cadaver lab, you leave all of you books and such outside of the room since you obviously don't want to get anything that may be on the floor, etc. on your stuff. Well, some idiot student in my class had a water bottle that they decided to just haphazardly lean on my bag. Of course the bottle leaked and ended up soaking my bag and everything in it, including my book. So that was the end of the book. So I ended up bringing it into the lab since it was already water damaged. I figured that at least we could pry the pages apart in there and if anything else got on it, it was no loss at that point. But that also meant that I lost my book... because once it goes into a cadaver lab, it does NOT come out. So that was the end of my book that I loved because some idiot didn't know how to place his/her water bottle. So I have always wanted another copy but I wasn't going to pay the $90 again for it. So I just went online to the publisher's site and ordered a desk/exam copy for myself now that I'm a teacher and have the e-mail and mailing address to back it up. And it's being sent to me next week. But is that bad?? Personally, I figure that I paid for my book once already, so it's not THAT bad. And eventually down the road I'm sure that I'll be teaching some anatomy courses in which I will be using that book since I think it's the best. But yeah... that's really just me rationalizing. :) In the end, we all know that these publishers are making crap loads of money off of books. And Lord knows that I have paid my dues and gotten nailed buying books for years... so I'm getting a little payback right now.
Anyway... just wondering what you all thought about that... :)
In other news... wedding planning is going well. We hope to have a DJ and wedding invitations picked out this weekend. That will just leave meeting with our potential photographer to make sure we're a-okay with that and me doing the rest of the work (flowers, favors, sending out invites, etc.). So yeah, we're basically almost done. All of those people who have to be drama queens and complain that it takes SOOOOO much time to plan a wedding. Yeah... that's just BS. They just want to be martyrs. I could have had this done sooner if I wasn't behind in school work and trying to keep up with that! LOL
Okay... I'm off for now... three day weekend this weekend because of Columbus Day... YAY!! My exciting plans... getting an oil change and new tires on my car. And then writing exams for the rest of the day. Wahoo!! I really know how to live it up on my day off, don't I?? :)

Trust me, all teachers do the same thing with the exam copy privilege. Plus, as you point out, you are going to be using this book as a teaching tool, no doubt. And, please, I get tons of books sent to me from publishers that I NEVER requested, so clearly they're not worried about losing any money. :)
I wish I was a teacher so I could replace some of my books... that HA book really was the best!!! (And one of my roommates in grad school stole it... likely not on purpose, but I no longer have it.) So no, I don't think it's one bit bad that you want a new copy of your book!
Also... you are way far ahead of everything for the wedding... I'm impressed! Whenever I get married (haha), you are going to be my wedding planner ;-)
